You can call toll free 1-855-FOR-1993 from any Manhattan pay-phone to get historical info from the block from 20 years ago. It’s part of the New Museum’s new 1993 exhibit, which is awesomely named after a Sonic Youth record. I just called from my block. Pretty cool apart from the urine smells.

Comedy Central Picks Up Amy Poehler-Produced Broad City!

The hilarious web series Broad City from UCB alums Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer is coming to Comedy Central as a new weekly series produced by Amy Poehler! The show, which follows two friends dealing with the everyday minutiae of life in New York, has been given a ten-episode order and will premiere in 2014.

Said Amy about the news, “I’m excited to work with Comedy Central and introduce Abbi and Ilana to America. And all the other countries. And also Mars. We’ve got big plans.”

In the meantime, be sure to check out the web series that started it all.

Abbi and Ilana created a smart, funny, interesting, beautiful thing from scratch and I’m so so so excited that they keep finding more success with it.

Best web series I’ve ever seen and now I can’t wait to see it on teevee!!!

I also like that he always makes me feel welcome at UCB. He’s a good guy.

I also like how Alan makes me feel welcome at UCB! When I was interning and didn’t know many people, Alan was one of the few performers who wasn’t one of my teachers who introduced himself and always said hi to me.

Also, I remember before my first audition that Alan was talking to me one night when I was interning about how I was feeling going into it. He had coached my group once, so I believed him when he said something like, “You’ll be fine. You’re good.” It made me feel much more confident than I was actually feeling at the time.

Last year when we were going through all the Progressive nonsense, there was a hashtag going on Twitter, #katiefisher, and people were using it to pass around updates about how the news battle was going and to give Progressive grief (for which grief I will be eternally grateful to you all).

It occurred to me then that even though so many people were working so hard for Katie and me and my family, we weren’t really talking much about her and her life. So I sort of jacked the #katiefisher tag and put up some tweets about my memories of Katie. One of those was about all the cookies that she mailed to me when I was away at school.

It was that tweet that inspired Porter and Kim Mason to suggest to me that we should memorialize Katie by seeing how many cookies we could get sent around between people who love each other.

Part of the reason that I was and am so excited to be working on Katie Fisher Day is that I want to remember Katie, and I want y’all to remember her too.

Everyone has again worked so hard to make Katie Fisher Day 2013 happen, and it means so much to me because it is a very Katie kind of day. She would have jumped all over this.

Hopefully the joy of the day is between the people baking cookies and the people receiving cookies, all of us enjoying their happiness. I won’t take this day to re-eulogize Katie or to try to put me and her in between you and the folks that you love.

Everyone should know, though, that by getting involved and baking and reaching out to your loved ones, you’re remembering Katie the best way possible— by doing for each other the things that she did for me and everyone around her.

This is great.

A really good AV Club article about why Stop Making Sense is not only the greatest concert film ever made, but also transcends just being a concert film and goes to a completely different place. “There’s truly nothing else like it. Nobody has even tried.”
