indiecagematch:
It’s a fresh slate this weekend guys! Sunday, Sunday, Sunday, in UCB East Indie Cage Match’s spine-tingling eleventh show, a brand new crop of teams comes out to compete for Indie Cage Match glory. Three will enter, one will leave victorious - Sunday, January 29th, 7:30 PM at UCB…
Come watch us this Sunday, because I know no one is coming the following week …...
"Center of the Universe"
I like Simon Rich’s writing (this is his second New Yorker piece):
JANUARY 9, 2012
On the first day, God created the heavens and the earth.
“Let there be light,” He said, and there was light. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening—the first night.
On the second day, God separated the oceans from the sky. “Let there be a horizon,” He said. And lo: a horizon appeared and God...

What a Boxing Day!
For whatever reason, Boxing Day is always a big deal for my family. In no particular order, our accomplishments from this year’s boxing day:
- wrote thank-you letters to the Krampus for not punishing us this Christmas
- had a weenie roast in the backyard
- took turns wearing each others’ clothes and making humorous new year’s resolutions (in the voice of the person whose...
Worst of Both Worlds
Great idea for a movie based on my morning: a guy has to take a hobo shower using his kitchen sink because the water in his bathroom is brown and freezing cold … BUT, unlike a homeless person, he still has to go into work all day at a boring job. Riding on the success of Hannah Montana, I’m calling it Worst of Both Worlds.
A Thanksgiving miracle!
CAROLINE MABEL WU …
if you see this, I found your passport at the 28th street 1 subway stop tonight. E-mail me at apfrench2 at gmail.com! I’d really like for you to get it back, and I’d also really like to be able to say “Pay it forward.”
UPDATE: Caroline’s boyfriend saw this and at 2am on Thanksgiving I got an e-mail from her. We exchanged the passport right before the 3x3 tourney last...
This really made me laugh just now
Chrissie Gruebel posted this article about Onassis that I previously hadn’t seen, and just reading this idea made me really laugh:
“Altman is proud of a sketch where Onassis member Corey Johnson plays a dad who is angry at his kids. He is “yelling at them about their messy home but he just keeps saying ‘What do you think this is, a fucking ski lodge?’ said Altman. “Which makes no...

The Glide
The highlight of my marathon as a spectator this year was correctly calling out a runner’s #22 Houston Rockets jersey as being Clyde Drexler and getting a response of “Nice!” from another guy standing nearby as the runner passed and the back of his jersey confirmed that it was indeed a Drexler.
Congrats the teams advancing!
threeonthree:
What a crazy, awesome show with an INSANE crowd! Seriously, what the hell was up with that crowd.
The following teams will move on to the Semi-Finals:
According to Jim, Rory, and Craig
These Guys Look Like They Read
and your Wildcard team Dirty Sex Magic (Phil Jackson, Alex French, Casey Chew).
And finally, two years later, the cosmic debt of not getting on The Price Is Right...

"considering"
In honor of Halloween, the only update I’ve sent to the alumni newsletter since graduating:
Haircut?
Anyone have good Halloween suggestions where semi-longer hair (like the kind I currently have) would be useful? If not, I think I’m gonna get a cut tonight. And FYI: I’ve already been Richie Tennenbaum for Halloween.
Immediately Great
Last chance to see Immediately Great tonight (at 11 at UCB). Since it’s only been a four week class, we’ve been changing/improving the form each week, and I legitimately think tonight will be the best one yet. Oh, and remember, bring in a Subway napkin/cup and say “ANYtober” at the box office and your ticket’s only $5! And as an extra incentive, just know that in a...
Beer me, intern!
This week was my first week officially being done interning at UCB after a little over a year (8 months on Saturdays, 3 months on Fridays, and 2 months on Thursdays). In honor of being done, a few lists (and I have to say, most of these things are due to the fact that I was interning on the weekend):
Best things found while cleaning after shows:
3.) A Magnolia cupcake that was individually...
This Is a Book (excerpts)
My favorite parts from this morning’s subway ride (from Demetri Martin’s book):
Short Stories
When the stripper jumped out of the giant cake, everyone got excited. But then when she jumped into the regular-size cake, everyone got confused.

Don't force it
The best movie title I came across at work today was Bob the Builder: The Three Musketrucks.

My favorite moment from last night’s ‘Parks and Recreation.’
Sorry guys I bet there will be a lot of P&R reblogs today. Last night’s ep was on another level.
This really made me laugh out loud at 2am last night.
The most pretentious e-mail I sent today ...
was one in which I told someone – who I’ve never spoken to before – that I couldn’t make a call tomorrow because I was going to be “saving lives by donating blood.”
Office Holiday Party Survey Pt. 2
For the anonymous survey that was sent out this week:
9. Do you have any ideas or suggestions?
To be clear, when I checked “open space” for the venue type, I meant outdoors. I think my favorite Holiday party (and actually, my favorite office party in general) was the one we had at the farm outside the city (again, never happened). It was so much fun and would be worth it to...
Office Holiday Party Survey
For the anonymous survey that was sent out yesterday:
8. If you attended a Holiday Party in prior years, please tell us what you liked most about one or more of the parties:
I liked when we had the Holiday Party at the farm/rural area outside the city and we got to take the carriage rides in small groups. I especially thought the driver was funny and had lots of good parody Christmas songs....
From memory, my favorite Vincent D'Onofrio quotes...
(all said with a pained delivery and big gasps of air)
- “Sugar … water. More … more … more”
- “It was like E’gar, except it wasn’t E’gar. Like someone wearing an E’gar suit.”
- “A man came in here with a cat … very dear friend of mine!”
- “Ahhhh, you idiots!”
- “It doesn’t matter. In...

Good Week
My phone was stolen when I fell asleep on the train last Saturday. I still haven’t gotten a new phone (a SIM card to use with an old phone should be in today), but it’s sort of been a blessing in disguise because I’ve gotten so much done without being able to text and constantly check my e-mail. My top accomplishments of the last six days:
- Helped build a deck
- Watched the entire series of The...
